The Residential and Commercial Construction pathway provides learning opportunities for students interested in preparing for careers in construction and building design, performance, and sustain- ability. The standards focus on the manner in which residential and commercial structures are designed and built. The pathway includes instruction in the way in which these structures are built (Class B California License).

Course Sequence

This course is recommended for students who are interested in the construction industry. The purpose of the course is to provide a hands-on, activity-based experience in terms of exploring the fundamentals of the industry.   The students will receive instruction in the areas of residential framing, layout, plumbing, electrical wiring, welding, masonry, blueprint reading, and model building. The construction students will also learn the safe and proper use of hand and power tool operation..

Normally taken for 2 consecutive periods. Offers actual construction experience. A complete residential dwelling is constructed in sequential classes, with exposure to all phases of construction including: safe tool use, plan reading, estimating, codes, layout, foundations, framing, roofing, siding, mechanicals and interior finish.This is a hands on experience.  Students will be exposed to the rigors of a safe construction site including: sawdust, mud, paint stains, working at heights and crawling below floors. It provides the incomparable satisfaction of constructing a valuable structure through focus, patience, active participation, skill development and a work ethic.
